Police Chief Responds to "Rumor Mongers" in Drowning Investigation

"There is no serial killer!" La Crosse police chief Ed Kondracki repeats that evaluation of the drunken drowning death of Craig Meyers in the city in a tersely worded statement today. Kondracki calls theories about smiley face gangs, rogue cops, long range hypnotists, or a possible seductive female leading unknowing men to the water's edge, "wild accusations" and "demeaning to all." He says all of the deaths have been examined thoroughly by state and federal investigators along with local law enforcement. All have come to the same conclusion. Young men like 21 year-old WTC student Craig Meyers have drowned in the Mississippi river after becoming severely intoxicated.
