Petty Now Ordered To Trial For Jameson Shooting

Written by

More than a month after a man went to a La Crosse hospital to be treated for bullet wounds to the neck, the man accused of shooting him is ordered to go to trial.

William Petty is charged with endangering the safety of Michael Jameson, and with threatening a witness. Police investigator Ryan Fitzgerald says Petty threatened to harm a woman who saw him handle the gun that shot Jameson, and she fled to Milwaukee.  The woman told police that Petty and a second man hid the gun in a garage right after the shooting.

Man With Airgun Triggers Campus Closure

Written by

WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) The man who carried an air gun on the campus of Carroll University and triggered a lockdown has been released and cited for disorderly conduct. The college sent text alerts and emails to students to stay inside school buildings Tuesday after at least two people reported seeing a man with a gun on campus. Several Waukesha public schools in the area also kept students inside.

Waukesha Police Capt. Ron Oremus said Wednesday the man found the non-lethal weapon in the garbage and was carrying it back to his apartment when he was spotted on campus. Oremus says police believe the man had no ill intent, but the citation was issued because his actions caused ``a stir.''

Heavily-armed officers approached the man's apartment complex with guns drawn and arrested him.

UW-GB Investigation Continues

Written by

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) The father of a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay basketball player is speaking out in support of coach Brian Wardle. The university announced last week that it had launched an investigation of Wardle after receiving a complaint from the parents of a former player.

Orrin Brown is the father of junior center Alec Brown. He says that his son has never been mistreated by Wardle or complained about him.

But it's also not certain that Alec Brown will return to Green Bay next season. His father says he is thinking about turning professional. The deadline to declare for the NBA draft is April 28.
