Among the many drunk drivers corralled by La Crosse police over the week-end was the guy who got a little too distracted by the electronics in his car. Cops say James Panzer from Marshfield was paying more attention to his GPS than to the road when he swerved across a lane of traffic to make a left turn and ran into another car. Some people hurt in the accident, including kids in the back of Panzer's van. Panzer blew a .143 on the scene. Interestingly, police say his wife, a passenger in the van, was sober enough to drive.
Another convicted sex offender will call La Crosse home. 57 year-old Alvin Hughes will live at Attic Correctional on Rose street . Hughes was convicted five years ago in a sexual assault of a disabled woman and threatened to hurt the woman's child if she didn't give in. He's also got a second degree murder charge on his rap sheet.
La Crosse's police chief says he won't block a new ordinance that allows tickets for first time marijuana possession. But chief Ed Kondracki is still not happy about the idea. The chief says he's concerned the ordinance will send a "mixed message" about drug tolerance which could increase drug use in the community. Kondracki says, once the ordinance goes into effect, it's up to his officers' discretion on whether to write tickets for marijuana or charge possession as a crime.

A Norwalk man, charged with attempted homicide of a Monroe County Sheriff's Deputy, will make his next court apearance in Monroe County on Tuesday. 23-year-old Rodrigo Medina-Ferrer is also charged with escaping from custody and armed burglary for the incident in which was arrested before his alleged escape.
Seems as though Medina-Ferrer broke into a woman’s house and tried punching her father with a metal belt buckle. When he was arrested for that, Medina-Ferrer managed to open the window of squad car, wiggle out, cut a chain on his hand-cuffs, charge at a deputy, and strike him repeatedly in the head with the cuffs.
Another officer who tried to arrest Medina-Ferrer was bit by the suspect
