Winona police have arrested 2 out of the 3 people that stole several
thousands of dollars worth of merchandide from the Winona Fleet Farm store back
in November. 26 year old Kyle Olson and 25 year old Matthew Symitizek,
were arrested in La Crosse. Police are still looking for 26 year old
Kyle Davidson. The three men face possible felony theft charges in connection
with the thefts.
Police say the men filled a large hockey duffel bag with electronics, video game consols, phones, b.b. guns and a $700 crossbow and walked out of the store and into a waiting car. The items were valued at over $3000.
The case has been referred to the county atttorney's office.
Just before Christmas, over $50 thousand was doled out to teachers in the Lacrosse School District for classroom projects. Money that did not come from the district. It's money that comes from the community.
The executive director of the La Crosse Public Education Foundation Geva Thole says the need for financial assistance has grown across the district.
The foundation has been around for 22 years now and helps support Essentials

Last year, UW-Lacrosse hosted the NCAA Division 3 National Wrestling Championships. That has opened the door for the university to also play host to the Track and Field Championships in 2013. So when does planning start for that event?
Athletic Director, Josh Whitman, says they are excited to host the wrestling championships again in March and thinks there may be some gymnastics championships coming in the future.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving in Wisconsin is pushing for more interlock. MADD wants lawmakers to support a bill in Madison that would force all convicted drunk drivers to install breath interlock devices on their cars.
John Vose is with MADD Wisconsin. Currently, Wisconsin mandates breath interlocks for drunk drivers stopped with a BAC of .15 or higher.
There's going to be some eagle slicing and dicing if a big wind energy project goes up just south of Red Wing. That's the claim from a coalition opposed to the wind project planned by T. Boone Pickens' American Wind Alliance. Mary Hartman says the 48 planned wind turbines will cause major problems in the bald eagle nesting area
Today, reps from Xcel energy are scheduled to visit the site of the wind development. Xcel is set to renew an energy purchase agreement with Pickens' company. Hartman hopes Xcel backs out once it sees the potential disruption for wildlife.
