Reverend Cited After Massage

Written by

Shame, and a disorderly conduct ticket for a La Crosse religious leader. Reverend Monsignor Bernard McGarty of the Diocese of La Crosse was in Wassau apparently to attend a funeral when he stopped at a salon for a massage. During the massage, the therapist was rubbing McGarty's leg when he lifted the blanket and told her to rub oil on his genitals. She ran from the room, and according to police, the 89 year old McGarty yelled an obscenity at her. McGarty admitted to Wasau police that he told the massage therapist to rub oil on his genitals. He was given a $250 disorderly conduct ticket. Mcgarty has been a frequent speaker on religious topics in the La Crosse area and serves as a visiting scholar of ecumenical studies at Viterbo University.

Northside Mayor Says Goodbye

Written by

70 year old Donnie Johnson, whom some call the Mayor of the North Side even though he lives on the South Side of La Crosse, has retired from his grocery position he held at the store at 1607 George Street after four decades. Johnson said he became enamored of bagging and stocking shelves at the age of 16 at a Piggly Wiggly on Causeway Boulevard, during an era when La Crosse boasted almost 80 grocery stores. In 1974, he started at the George Street building which is now Gordys Country market. As for retiring, Johnson said it's time. Donnie and his wife, Bonnie, intend to do some traveling to visit their two daughters and six grandchildren.
