Medical Marijuana Coming To Minnesota?

Written by

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) Supporters of legalizing marijuana for medical use are putting their plan forward at Minnesota's Capitol. But leaders of the group that will lead the charge have previously said they are not expecting any action on the proposal until the 2014 session. This session is due to conclude in a few weeks.

Details of the proposal were to be discussed at a news conference Thursday. Boosters say they have bipartisan support in both chambers.

Minnesota lawmakers approved a medical marijuana bill in 2009. But then-Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty vetoed the measure. Current Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton has voiced opposition to legalization of marijuana for any use.

One man has been arrested after gunfire on South 4th Street on Wednesday...while a second man is still being sought by La Crosse police.

The gunfire happened outside an apartment building on the 13-hundred block of South 4th, shortly after 2 p-m.

Police Lieutenant Pat Hogan says both men left the scene after the shooting. Brian Carr, who lives at the apartment, was arrested after a police chase to the top of Grandad Bluff. He could be charged with reckless endangerment. The second man, Redondo Shelley, had not been found at last report.

Cause Of Super Buffet Fire Still Unknown

Written by

It used to be one of La Crosse's hottest night spots...

But the former Avalon Ballroom was just plain hot for a while on Wednesday, when fire broke out in what's now the Super Buffet restaurant. The fire scene was a block away from the Monitor Street fire station, and the emergency tied up north-south traffic along the causeway for a short time.  Nobody was hurt, and the cause of the fire is still unknown. Most of the damage at Super Buffet seemed to be confined to the ceiling and roof areas.
