27 Lacrosse teachers will share in over $53 thousand in grants awarded Tuesday from the Lacrosse Education Foundation. Repeat grant winner, Central English Teacher Mary Nugaard Nelson says, to her, it's more then winning money for the classroom........it's about a strong foundation that can do what the school district sometimes can't.
The teachers were surprised with their winnings Tuesday.
It's time for your creative skills to come out. Oktoberfest, USA has announced the 2012 Oktoberfest Button Design Contest started Tuesday. "It's All About Fest!" is the theme for the 52nd celebration of La Crosse's premier fall festival.
They are looking for a design with the right mix of
originality and creativity that effectively incorporates the spirit of the theme. The button design contest is open to the public and runs through Thursday, January 26th. The official rules will be listed on the Oktoberfest website at www.oktoberfestusa.com.
Entries may be dropped off at the Oktoberfest office located on the Southside Festgrounds at the corner of 2nd and La Crosse streets from Monday-Thursday during the hours of 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. The official 2012 Oktoberfest button design will be chosen by the
Oktoberfest Board of Directors and the winner will be notified by end of February/beginning of March.
Christmas came early for 27 teachers in the Lacrosse School District Tuesday.

Allegations of a cover up at Penn State, where football assistant Jerry Sandusky was allegedly found to have molested boys in the 1990's, has the entire UW System taking a look at their policies. UW-Lacrosse Chancellor Joe Gow says Wisconsin will conduct what's called a risk management review, to make sure that all university facilities are safe places for children.
Gow says the review should be finished by April or May. Any proposals for changes will go to the Board of Regents by June. Regents' audit committee chairman Michael Falbo says the review is the top priority at the moment in the wake of the Penn State scandal.
