Kids' Fishing At Genoa Postponed

The Kids' Fishing Day at the Genoa National Fish Hatchery has been postponed until Saturday, February 15th.  It had been scheduled for this Saturday, February 1st, but the date has been changed because of the risk of bad weather.

Joseph Smith will get yet another exam before his next competency hearing in La Crosse County Court...

Judge Dale Pasell is asking for two doctors to examine Smith, to see if he's competent to ask for a release from the Mendota institute. The next hearing is set for March 19th. Smith was found not guilty due to mental illness, after stabbing and wounding a La Crosse policeman during a traffic stop eight years ago. He spent four years at Mendota before being released briefly, but was re-committed when his mental condition became worse.

Flesch Runs For 96th Seat

A retired dairy farmer from Soldiers Grove is the first democratic candidate for the 96th Assembly district.

Pete Flesch entered politics in 1999 by serving on his town board. Since then he's served as town chairman, county board member, and chairman of the Crawford county board.

The 96th district, currently represented by republican Lee Nerison co9uld become an open seat this year. Nerison has not said what his intentions are as of yet.
