La Crosse County GOP County Of The Year

Written by

The La Crosse GOP won the County of the Year award for 2013
from the Republican Party of Wisconsin on Saturday in Milwaukee, the top
honor for the local groups that comprise the state Republican party.

Chairman Bill Feehan accepted the award in the company of nearly two dozen
delegates from La Crosse at the county chairmen’s banquet held at the Hyatt
Regency in Milwaukee.

"We've worked incredibly hard to build the local party over the past
several years," said Feehan. ”This is a shared accomplishment. Without this
dedicated and talented team, we wouldn't have the opportunity to accept
this honor."

The County of the Year Award recognizes one county each year for growth in
membership, grassroots activity, and community involvement, among other
metrics.

The award for La Crosse comes in the midst of a bustling Republican Party
of Wisconsin convention attended by about 2,000 people, highlighted by an
energetic presence by La Crosse native and Secretary of State candidate
Julian Bradley, who overwhelmingly won the RPW endorsement earlier Saturday.

"We've come a long way in a few short years, but the real goal is to make
sure voters always have a conservative choice at the polls," said Feehan.

Adding to recognitions received by La Crosse, former LCRP chairman Walter
Baltz of West Salem earned the state party’s Alvan Bovay Award, the state
party’s top honor for lifetime achievement as a party leader in each
congressional district.

GOP Convention Coming To La Crosse

Written by
La Crosse will host the Republican Party’s state convention
in May 2015. The choice was announced at the party’s annual convention on
Saturday in Milwaukee.

The announcement came shortly after the La Crosse County Republican Party
accepted the County of the Year, the state party's top award honoring just
one county party a year and later in a day when Julian Bradley
overwhelmingly won the state party’s endorsement.

"It's an incredibly exciting time to be a Republican in La Crosse County,
and that excitement is going to continue into next year," said Bill Feehan,
La Crosse County Republican Party chairman. "It's an honor to have our city
chosen for this statewide event.”

The La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau helped put together the
winning bid. Executive Director Dave Clements said:

"The La Crosse Area Convention and Visitors Bureau along with the La Crosse
County Republican Party, The La Crosse Center and all of our hospitality
partners are excited to host the State Republican Convention in May of
2015. We are pleased the Republican party has selected La Crosse and we
appreciate the economic impact it will bring to this area.”

“The scenic beauty of the Mississippi River, Grandad Bluff, and our entire
region offers an ideal setting for this convention,” said Clements.

Town Of Onalaska Will Try Second Petition

Written by

It only took a few minutes to settle on a new strategy...

Officials from the town of Onalaska spoke with their lawyer at a special meeting today, and decided to make a second try at incorporation. The town's original petition was knocked down by a La Crosse judge this week, mostly over how the petition was written. Town board members plan to fix the legal language, and collect a few dozen signatures on the new petition. The village of Holmen took the township to court the first time, because Holmen wants to annex some of the same land that could be included in a possible Village of Midway.

He was arrested two months ago in a La Crosse drug raid, and was released from jail a short time later.

Now, 19-year-old James Washington is back behind bars...for cocaine possession, and bail-jumping. Washington returned to the La Crosse jail yesterday, and is expected in court this afternoon. He and Aaron Thompson were busted in March on charges of selling crack to a police informant. The two are suspected of collaborating with Ernest Knox, who is now facing federal charges because of area drug activity.
