The lineup for this year's Freedom Fest at U-W-L's Memorial Field has been announced on the event's website. Actor Gary Sinise and his 'Lieutenant Dan Band' are returning to Freedom Fest for the first time since the very first benefit concert at the old stadium six years ago. Also headlining the show will be Huey Lewis and the News. The local band 'The Remainders' will open the show honoring veterans, scheduled for Saturday, June 14th.

In Prairie du Chien, men's skeleton medalist Matt Antoine will attend a community reception tonight, and serve as grand marshal for the St. Patrick's Day parade tomorrow. Antoine's sport requires him to slide down a course on his stomach at more than 100 miles an hour, with his arms kept to his side. He tells us that he knows a race has gone well, if he doesn't remember much of anything about it.
Antoine says he and his family had a very good time attending the Sochi Olympics, and he thinks the media overplayed the complaints of other athletes there.
Football and the Packers were hot topics at one event in La Crosse last night, with former Green Bay quarterback and coach Bart Starr in town to speak at the Gateway Boy Scout dinner.
Starr talked with reporters about the glory days under Coach Vince Lombardi, and the leadership skills of current Packer passer Aaron Rodgers. But when he was asked if he had the chance to give advice on the game to the NFL commissioner, Starr declined to suggest advice.
Starr says he would like to see his old Packer teammates Jerry Kramer and Bob Skoronski inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
When a branch library in La Crosse was saved from closing last year, Mayor Tim Kabat talked about naming a task force to examine ways of funding the library system.
That task force is now in place, and has its first meeting next Tuesday at City Hall. Library director Kelly Krieg-Sigman says residents of library neighborhoods will serve on the panel, along with city council members.
Customers of the South Branch library protested last fall, when the library board briefly suggested closing the branch on 16th Street under city orders to make large budget cuts.
