We're learning more about the rollover crash that killed two young men near Holmen...
Sheriff's officers heard about the accident at around 6 o'clock this morning, but it may have happened during the night. The passenger was thrown from the car, while the driver was pinned inside. Both men were 21, and sources indicate they were recent graduates of Holmen High School. The car went off County Highway X-X and rolled into a field.
One more delay for Bryan Stanley...
The commitment hearing for the man who killed three people at an Onalaska church has been delayed until next month, because of information received by Stanley's lawyer on short notice. Attorney Tom Hayes says he got a doctor's report on Stanley late yesterday afternoon, and he has not had time to review the report with his client. Stanley was sent back to the Mendota hospital last month after experiencing 'anxiety.' He has been living in the area for three years, after spending more than 20 years in the state hospital because of the church murders.
A fatal crash is being investigated near Holmen this morning.
The sheriff's department tells us the accident on La Crosse County Road X-X was reported around 6 a-m. They have not confirmed any deaths in the crash.
The interest rates on federal student loans will double this summer, unless Congress votes to block that from happening...
A House vote planned for Friday would shift money from the Obama health care plan to the student loan system. The man in charge of the U-W system, president Kevin Reilly, says high student debt is 'intolerable,' and he wants colleges to find more ways to offer financial aid to students.
Reilly's leadership of the university system is appreciated by the U-W-L student senate. That group honored Reilly on Wednesday with its annual award for advocates of higher education.
