Lotsa Drunks, One Asleep at Wheel
Among the many, many drunk drivers collared by La Crosse police over the week-end, one guy is on his fifth OWI. Police say they found Anthony Guzman passed out in his car in the middle of the intersection at 15th and Farnam very early in the morning on Halloween. The car was running, in gear, but Guzman's foot was on the brake and he was fast asleep. Cop managed to wake him up and the get the car in park safely. The 50 year-old Guzman said he'd been drinking downtown with friends. He wouldn't blow in the breathalyzer but cops say he couldn't stand or speak very well.

Alternate Side Parking Season Kick-OffThere might not be many ten dollar tickets on windshields this morning, but they're coming.
Tis the season after all. Alternate side parking ticket season is on. Started at one this morning. So, today's November first. That means, this morning you needed to be parked on the odd side of the street. Tomorrow it's the even side. And so on. Ten dollar tickets in La Crosse. Among communities that have hiked the alternate side ticket prices in recent years. That price bump last year may explain why La Crosse traffic cops wrote fifty percent fewer tickets last winter than the year before. But part of that explanation also may be the parking study conducted around UWL last year. Cars were exempted from alternate side parking rules except after notification by the city for things like snow emergencies. Crash closes highwaysA semi broadsided a car in Winona this morning leaving one critically hurt.
You can expect delays on Highway 64 at Highway 14 for pretty much the rest of the morning. We'll update you on this story when we get more details. UWL Football Coach RetiresUW La Crosse is searching for a new head football coach. Larry Terry announced this morning he will retire at the end of this season. Terry has coached the Eagles for the past eleven seasons, compiling a 64-47 record. He ranks as the third all time winningest coach in UWL history. This season has been a disappointment, but Terry says his decision was not based on this year's record.
Administrator in City's Planning Department Cited for Hit and RunWhy a high profile city employee side-swiped a car on Friday night and kept on driving is anybody's guess. La Crosse's community development administrator, Liana Escott, apparently swerved into a car parked on Market Street late last Friday night but didn't stop to check the damage. Police say, the guy in the car that got hit tried to chase Escott down but she wouldn't stop and eventually he gave up, satisfied to turn in her license plate number to cops. Escott, who's also at the head of the city's Safe Routes to School program, finally talked to police on Tuesday, by then she'd repaired the damage to her car but was apparently evasive about it. She's been busted on a hit and run charge.
