A 78 year old woman died in a house fire Friday in Vernon County. Helen Boardman was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire at her home on Highway 35 in Genoa. The Vernon County Sheriff’s office says her son, Steve Boardman, arrived home late Friday night to find the home engulfed in flames. Members of four fire departments worked together, but the home was destroyed by the fast moving flames. An investigation is centered on finding the origin of the fatal fire.
If your traveling on Highway 43 over the Mississippi River in Winona this week, expect to run into lane closures. It's that time for annual bridge inspections. Single lanes will be seen all week from 8am to 6pm and the DOT will have flaggers out letting you know where to go. These inspections take place annually with in depth inspections occurring every other year.
