Lacrosse School's On T.V.Several School District of La Crosse classrooms have had guests this week. The guests aren’t speaking to the class or sharing what they do, but rather taping the classroom experiences La Crosse students have in International Education, specifically the Chinese language and culture.
A camera crew from Wisconsin Public Television arrived in the district last week traveling throughout the La Crosse Schools to learn about the district’s impressive International Education opportunities. The crew not only filmed the high school’s Chinese classes and interviewed those teachers, but also visited elementary and middle schools to see how lessons about the Chinese culture are integrated into daily lessons. At Logan Middle School students will be viewing podcasts from a partner school in China and creating their own to share what is happening in the La Crosse Community. At North Woods International School the crew will visit a music class, observe preschool and kindergarten classrooms that are teaching about China and interview students who participate in the school’s after school China Club. Once filming is complete the Education Communications Board from Wisconsin Public Television will produce a video about the Chinese education programs in the School District of La Crosse. The video will be distributed to districts throughout the state as a noted “best practices” model for offering Chinese education and may be broadcast on Wisconsin Public Television at a later date. Fatigue is being blamed for the collision of two trains at Dresbach in December of 2008, according to a report by the Federal Railroad Administration. A 17-car train did not yield to a longer train that was merging onto the main track, and the resulting crash sent a locomotive and two dozen other cars into the water. Investigators believe the two men operating the smaller train were not alert because they were working long hours that week, including a nearly 14-hour shift. The accident caused more than a million dollars in damage to the trains and the rails. |
