Surveyor Scammers In La Crosse County

Written by

On Wednesday La Crosse County Sheriff’s Deputies took a complaint from the small community of Stevenstown, located in La Crosse County between Holmen and Mindoro.

The victim indicated that two subjects, both male/white in their late 20s, approached the residence and posed as surveyors. One man convinced the victim to show him the residence’s lot lines, while the other male subject entered the residence and searched through drawers. However, the victim did not notice anything missing from the house after the subjects left.

The two subjects were driving a full-size, white SUV. Please be on the lookout for this type of scam. If anyone has any further information, call the Sheriff’s Department.

They're not proposing a ban just yet, but staffers with the Food and Drug Administration are saying that adding menthol to cigarettes could make smoking more dangerous than with regular cigarettes.

La Crosse County health educator Paula Silha wants the addition of menthol to be studied in all tobacco products...especially ones aimed at young people.

Silha tells us that menthol products offer an easy way for teens to pick up the tobacco habit. The FDA says menthol can make smoking more pleasant, and harder to quit.

Guilty on two counts...but 'not guilty' on a third.

William Petty of La Crosse has been convicted of accidentally shooting and injuring another man in the back of the neck. He's also guilty of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon...but a jury acquitted him on the charge of intimidating a witness. Petty was handling a gun inside a La Crosse apartment last March when the gun went off. A bullet went through the back of Michael Jameson's neck. Petty will be sentenced on September 20th.

The state crime lab found a handprint from Jeff Lepsch at the scene of a double murder in La Crosse.

A fingerprint expert from the lab, Karley Hujet, testifies at Lepsch's murder trial that one print from Lepsch has been found on a glass display case from May's Photo in La Crosse.  Lepsch is accused of killing Paul and A.J. Petras at the photo store last fall, but he claims he never went to that shop. Earlier testimony today from another crime lab expert said no DNA from Lepsch could be found at the murder scene.
