Village leaders in Holmen may take the month of April off from arguing over fluoride...
We're told that an engineering firm probably won't have recommendations for changing Holmen's fluoridation system until the May village board meeting. This month, the board asked Davy Engineering to work on ways that the mothballed fluoridation system in Holmen could be altered to use a different, safer form of fluoride. Public works director Dean Olson says the change could cost as much as 70-thousand dollars. The village has suspended fluoridation for the last two years, because many critics consider fluoride unhealthy.
Is La Crosse's mayor happy that his four-year term is just about over?
Mayor Matt Harter tells WIZM's Mike Hayes that he'll be happy to "move on to new things" when his term expires next month. Harter says the city has cut taxes all four years, while maintaining a high level of government services. Harter says that was accomplished by people working together, although he and the city council have disagreed on several issues. The mayor announced last fall that he would not run in next Tuesday's election. He says his most memorable moment as mayor was the night he took the oath of office in 2009.
