Some school districts in the area are deciding to play it safe today, the day
One local man's holiday effort to raise money to help the homeless hasn't gotten as far as he would like...
Since last Friday, Robert Bailey of La Crosse has collected about 500 dollars. He's aiming for 25-hundred. Bailey is ringing a bell on 3rd Street during daytime business hours, and thinks his location makes it tough to get donations, because more people drive past than walk past his location.
Bailey had planned to end his fund-raiser on Christmas Eve...but now, he may extend it into the first week of January.
Adult crimes can lead to adult consequences...
That warning today from a La Crosse judge to a 17-year-old facing adult charges in a police chase that led to a van smashing into a business last week. Clifton Traywick pleads 'not guilty' to driving a stolen van from Spies Construction that slammed into the Sir Speedy store at Rose and Monitor Streets. Judge Scott Horne is releasing Traywick from jail on a signature bond, but has ordered him not to drive or drink. Horne says if Traywick complies with the conditions of his release, he'll have a better chance of avoiding prison time if he's convicted and sentenced.
Maybe it's because so many schools and businesses were already closed for today...
The sheriff of Vernon County reports fewer drivers than usual on the roads today, apparently because of fears of a worse storm than we've actually had. And that means fewer weather-related accidents.
Sheriff John Spears only heard about two cars sliding off the highway in Vernon County. He believes drivers were more careful this morning than they may have been during the first snow of the season.
