A Robbery? Really, Happy Man?
A guy in La Crosse this week-end says he was robbed. Cops appear skeptical. Police say the guy's staying at a motel near downtown. He claims he was jumped at bartime on Sunday while he was drunkenly stumbling around the motel parking lot. Cops say it seems sketchy because the guy is pretty vague about describing the three thugs who apparently took his stuff and, police say, he had a bit of a carefree attitude while being questioned about the robbery. Did the robbery actually happen? Hard to say, but the guy is missing his money, keys and ID.
Three 15 Year-Old Amigos, One Stolen TruckA week-end of adventure ends with a trip to juvie in La Crosse for three boys. Cops say the three fifteen year-olds escaped from a group home in Sparta early on Saturday morning, somehow got to La Crosse and then holed up in a friend's house for a time until the friend's mom found out. Then, they were just killing time until running across a truck on the street at a rummage sale. The boys grabbed the truck and took off as the owner watched it drive away. Cops finally tracked them down on Sunday. They suspect the boys may have also stolen a van in Sparta. UW-L Graduations To MoveThe UW-La Crosse commencement this Saturday, in the Mitchell Hall Gymnasium at UW-L will mark the last time a graduation ceremony is held on campus as the graduating class continues to grow and a larger venue is needed. Future ceremonies will be held at the La Crosse Center. That will start in December. Anybody Hear That Flushing Sound?Your Sunday night might not be all that peaceful in La Crosse this week-end. The city's water department begins its annual spring hydrant flushing on Sunday night around ten. The flushing helps move mineral sediments out of the city water lines. It's not a quiet process. Water spewing out of the hydrants, diesel trucks idling, yellow flashing lights. The flushing will continue through Thursday. On Sunday, crews will be concentrating on an area between the marsh and King street. Onalaska Picks New Superintendent From WithinFran's the man. Or, at least, the new superintendent for the Onalaska school district. Current director of instruction and curriculum for the district, Fran Finco, gets the nod from the school board to lead Onalaska as of July first. The board will make it official with a vote on Monday. Finco takes over from long time superintendent John Burnett. |
