A small-town police chief from the area is being charged with sexually assaulting a child, and intimidating a victim.

The charges were filed on Monday in Vernon County against Readstown Chief Shay Larson. He'll have another court appearance in two weeks. Larson was arrested recently in Nebraska on a warrant issued in Vernon County.

There's bound to be some in Minnesota outside of the twin cities who wonder why the state is getting involved in a funding deal for a new Vikings stadium in Minneapolis.  But Cory Merrifield, founder of the website Save-the-Vikes.org says three million fans who tune in for every Vikings game on Sunday around the state know how important the team is to the state.  And if a deal isn't done soon, it could be curtains for the storied franchise in Minnesota

Current deal for the stadium would mix additional gambling revenue with money from Minneapolis and several hundred million dollars from Vikings owners.  The new stadium would be built close to where the Metrodome is now. 

A Minnesota native who currently lives in England will return to the Midwest to become Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Heidi Slettedahl Macpherson, who currently serves as Pro Vice Chancellor of Research and Innovation at De Montfort University in Leicester, England, will begin her new UW-L position effective July 1st. Macpherson says her 22-year experience overseas will help her transition  into her role at UW-L, where she’s already taken note of an emphasis on academics. Macpherson was selected from an international search. She follows former Provost Kathleen Enz Finken, who resigned in December to become provost at Cal Poly University.

(AP) Gov. Mark Dayton says he'll try to pare back an overseas corporate tax break to finance a tax credit he wants for Minnesota companies that hire veterans, students or the currently unemployed. The tax break-for-tax break swap is the cornerstone of a supplemental budget he released Monday. It contains roughly $60 million in changes to a multibillion-dollar budget. Other features include reversing some health program cuts made a year ago. Lawmakers set the state's two-year budget last year and technically don't have to adjust it. Dayton's proposal hinges on the reduction of a tax preference for Minnesota businesses with overseas operations or subsidiaries. The change would generate $40 million if enacted this year. Republicans have long resisted the corporate tax change, arguing it would be a hardship on businesses.
