A 'not guilty' plea in an apparent drug-related murder...

Izelia Golatt of La Crosse will go to trial for the strangling death of Kristen Rodgers. Golatt was arrested last week, three days after the body of Rodgers was found in a north La Crosse alley. The victim reportedly had called Golatt, seeking to buy drugs. In court today, local police testified about evidence found at the crime scene and at Golatt's home...and about security video showing the two together shortly before Rodgers died.

(AP) Minority Democrats in the state Assembly won't let one of the roughest legislative sessions in Wisconsin history end. Thursday was the last scheduled day for floor debate in the Senate and Assembly before lawmakers leave Madison for the campaign trail. The Senate finished its work in less than an hour Thursday afternoon. The Assembly came to the floor Thursday morning and worked until 11 p.m. or so before the Democrats broke for strategy meetings. They returned to the floor around 3 a.m. Friday and started trying to pull their favorite bills up for votes, forcing majority Republicans to vote the attempts down one by one and prolonging the session. The body still had more than 30 bills on its regular calendar as dawn approached.

(AP) A sneezing driver is to blame for a power outage in Winona. Police say Travers DeWitte inadvertently stepped on the gas when a sneeze erupted, sending his vehicle across an intersection, up a curb and into a guy wire attached to a power pole. The crash snapped the cable, which flew up and severed a power line, cutting service to about 1,300 Xcel Energy customers Wednesday. Police say that sparks from the broken line ignited a small grass fire which quickly burned itself out. Power was later restored.

(AP) A former priest accused in several lawsuits of sexually abusing boys has been barred from parishes and schools in the Diocese of Winona. The diocese said it recently learned Thomas Adamson had moved to Rochester. It sent a letter and photo of Adamson to all Rochester schools and parishes alerting them to his presence. The diocese says it has also communicated directly to the 78-year-old Adamson that he isn't welcome on diocese property. Adamson was named in three lawsuits settled out of court. A fourth lawsuit was decided in favor of the complainant. Adamson has never faces criminal abuse charges because of the statute of limitations. He served in Winona and Adrian and was transferred to the Archdiocese of St. Paul in 1975 after abuse complaints surfaced.
