La Crosse Stormwater Bills Delayed
Originally the city of La Crosse was hoping to collect with a new stormwater utility at the beginning of this year. But a problem setting up a billing process likely will delay collection for months. Water utility manager Mark Johnson says billing for stormwater is not as easy as billing for water and sewer because there's no meter involved
Eventually, a typical household in La Crosse will pay an extra fifty bucks a year in a stormwater charge.
La Crosse Council to Vote This Week on Pay and Term Length CutHard to cut your own pay. So, it's a bit unlikely that the La Crosse city council will vote this week to do just that. It's one of two proposals by council member John Satory. Cut the pay in half. Cut the terms in half; from four years to two. The council, he says, would attract many more qualified candidates
Reason for the pay cut? Satory says, it's only fair. Since the council voted last month to cut the next mayor's pay in half if voters approve the plan for adding a city administrator in a binding referendum next month. Cops Say Drunk Driver Denies Drinking Right Before Spilling Empty From VanFaulty brake lights have led a La Crosse guy to his sixth OWI. Cops say they pulled over Sean Iverson on Saturday evening. Drinking? asked the cops. No, not at all, said Iverson. And then when he got out of his van, an empty beer can rolled out onto the ground. They found a bunch of cold ones in a box between the seats. Police say the 44 year-old Iverson blew slightly over a .14 on the breathalyzer. Campbell to Vote Tonight on Buying ChurchThe possibility of the town of Campbell buying an old church on French Island has sparked some protest. We've heard numerous complaints about unnecessary spending regarding the potential purchase. But town board supervisor Pat Post says she's made a well-below-appraisal on the former Baptist church and there's not much work to do to turn it into a new library space for the town
The town board holds a special six o'clock meeting tonight so that people in Campbell can vote on the purchase. Two Repeat Drunk Drivers Charged In La CrosseA couple of repeat drunk driving suspects appeared before a La Crosse judge on Monday... Whitney Zemple is facing his fourth drunk driving arrest. Zemple's blood alcohol was measured at .17. He's also accused of trying to escape and fight with a cop. Another driver, Sean Iverson of La Crosse, could be convicted of O-W-I for the sixth time. Iverson had beers in his car when an officer stopped him for a broken light. While his .14 was lower than the level for Zemple, Iverson is not supposed to have blood alcohol above .02 because of his past arrests.
