Santorum Stumps In Sparta

The first presidential candidate to hit this part of the state says healthcare in America is about to blow up. Republican Rick Santorum stopped off in Sparta this morning and says healthcare starts with a business.
The former Pennsylvania Senator pressed his own argument that he’s the best candidate and rival Mitt Romney is the worst to challenge Barack Obama on the health care issue in the fall. He says healthcare is the most important issue in the election.

La Crosse police have not arrested anyone yet for the shooting death of a Western Tech student on Monday. A news release from the police department declares the death of 20-year-old Sara Hougom to be a homicide, based on autopsy results. That would be the second murder in La Crosse this month, following the strangling death of a woman on the city's north side. Meanwhile, U-W-L Chancellor Joe Gow says a memorial service for the local college student may be planned soon.

Having to change the ways employees of the Onalaksa School District are covered by health insurance was one task that had to be done this year. This after the loss of $1.5 million in state money this year. Larry Dalton, Director of Finance & Business Services, says the school board was prepared for this change.

In Trempealeau County Court today, a plea of 'not guilty' from a girls' basketball coach who's charged with causing injury to his players while showing them a science experiment. Brady Olson has entered that plea on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. He could enter a plea to physical abuse of a child during his preliminary hearing, set for April 10th. Olson is the science teacher and coach from Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau who's been charged with causing burns on the legs of his middle-school team members. At least one girl on the team says Olson placed dry ice on their skin to show what the frozen chemical is like.
