Perner Guilty Of Girlfriend's Drug Death

The verdict is 'guilty' in a local drug overdose case...

Mitchell Perner has been convicted of giving his girlfriend a fatal dose of heroin last May. Shelby Perkins had taken heroin that night while on her job as a waitress at a chain restaurant, and she asked for more after getting off work. In closing arguments today, prosecutor Brian Barton said Perner may have cost Shelby her life by not telling emergency workers what drug she had taken. Perner's defense attorney argued that Shelby got the last dose of drugs directly from dealer Cory Koopman, who will be tried later this year for his role in her death. Sentencing for Perner is set for March 22nd.
