Food Stamp Cut Could Run Deep
A government group estimates Republican cuts to the food stamp program will bump at least 4 million and up to 6 million people out of the program with an additional 2.8 million losing them each year on average over the decade.
Shelly Krause, Executive Director of the La Crosse Hunder Task Force says the average food stamp allowance is already very low and many would see their share of funding cut even lower. She says they are reaching out to current clients enrolled in the program.
Krause says the foodstamp program is one of the three most effective anti poverty programs the government has, keeping 4 million people out of poverty last year alone.
