Tick, Tick, Boom...Tick Population High In WI This Summer

You can blame too much wet weather early in the year for a high tick population in Wisconsin...

Deer and wood ticks are being seen in higher numbers than last year...increasing the risk of Lyme disease and related illnesses. Tessa Whitemarsh monitors insects for the La Crosse County health department. She recommends looking for ticks when you shower or shampoo after being outdoors...and warming up the clothes dryer, because high heat can kill ticks hiding in clothes.  According to statewide studies, the tick population in La Crosse County has gone down in the last decade, but has increased in surrounding counties.
