Pot Arrest Disparities Highest in Upper Midwest
Upper midwest isn't the place to be if you're an African-American marijuana smoker. Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa wind up in the top five states in which blacks are much more likely to get busted for smoking marijuana than whites. That's according to a new report from the ACLU which finds, even though the rate of smoking pot is roughly the same between blacks and whites, the prevalance of arrest for possession is up to eight times more likely if you're black. Actually, over eight times more likely in Iowa, which has the worst disparity in the nation. 7.8 times more likely in Minnesota, which is number three. Six times more likely in Wisconsin; number five on the list.
