River Lock to Close For Repairs
The Mississippi River is getting shut down this week. At least at one lock. The Army Corps of Engineers will close Lock and Dam 6 at Fountain City to replace a gate that was severely damaged after getting hit by a barge. The replacement lock arrives today and the Corps will shut down the lock on Thursday to replace it. The Corps says the lock will close to all recreational and commercial traffic. The gate was hit last Thursday by a southbound barge. No injuries occurred during the accident.
