City Not Ready to Judge Impact of Residency Changes

Not clear at this point how many employees in the city of La Crosse would be affected by new residency rules if passed by the state legislature.  The state's budget committee has agreed to new rules that would forbid local governments from mandating residency for their employees.  The city's human resource department tells us determining the impact of the new rules depends on their final form.  La Crosse requires union employees to live in the city for three years as a condition of employment.  Department heads also must live in the city.  Non-union employees hired after August of 2011 also must live in the city.
