Top ACT Out Of Onalaska

An Onalaska High School junior achieved a top composite score of a 36 on a

recent ACT college admission and placement exam.

Ben Heinz learned he'd received the highest attainable score during a recent lunch hour and said he didn't know how to react. He said he had hoped for at least a 34.

Nationally, while the actual number of students earning a composite score of 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score.

Heinz is involved in the Onalaska High School band where he plays the bassoon in the concert band and tenor saxophone in the marching and jazz bands. He also works part time at Festival Foods.
