Gruenke Not So Sure On OWI Legislation

Members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee have been hosting public hearings on a bill which would establish mandatory minimum sentences for drunken drivers. We asked La Crosse County DA, Tim Gruenke if a batch of new laws will help the problem of drunk drivers.

The measure being discussed Thursday would impose a minimum three year prison sentence on drivers convicted of an OWI for the seventh, eighth and ninth time. A 10th offense would call for a minimum four year sentence in Wisconsin. No votes were taken Thursday.
