River Shutdown to Have Ripple Effects

Prices for some raw materials could jump this year because of flooding on the Mississippi.  The delays caused by flooding, says Kent Pehler with Brennan Marine in La Crosse, will translate into higher shipping costs and then higher costs for the stuff being carried in barges on the Mississippi.  We asked Pehler how long before everything is back to normal?

He expects locks from Muscatine south to open back up by the beginning of next week, if water continues to drop.  The spring flooding follows a near shut down of the river last year because of drought conditions.
