No Feed Geese

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) A proposed ordinance would ban people from feeding geese and other wildlife on public land in Cedar Rapids. The ordinance is aimed at keeping so many geese from staying too long in popular parks and fouling them with excrement.

The city has posted signs against feeding, but those have been largely ignored over the years. The proposed ordinance would put teeth into the punishment for violations: a $75 fine for a first offense, $150 for a second offense and $300 for a third.

The city also will continue its annual roundup of geese, which are then taken to rural areas in other counties.
It's unclear when the City Council will vote on the proposal.
