Last Of The "Redmen"?
One area school board could vote tonight to get rid of its long-time Indian nickname...or maybe not.
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau superintendent Troy Gunderson thinks a vote on the future of the "Redmen" nickname could go either way. Governor Doyle signed a bill last week giving the state more power to force schools to drop Indian mascots. Gunderson says there's pressure from G-E-T taxpayers to settle the matter, now that the bill has been signed. Last year, the G-E-T board came within one vote of abolishing the nickname.
