Short Standoff Near Winona Ends Peacefully

A man who kept police at bay for about an hour today near Winona, has been

arrested. Winona County sheriff's deputies along with deputies from Fillmore and Houston counties and the state patrol arrested the man during a brief standoff on County Road 12, between Highway 43 and Highway 76.

The man was involved in the shooting of a woman near Preston at some point this afternoon. Her condition has not been released. The man then took police on a high speed chase from Fillmore County and into Winona County on Interstate 90. The unnamed man allegedly was carrying a 9mm handgun and at one point told police to shoot him.

Police have blocked off the road near Highway 43 and the Interstate 90 Winona exit. It should re-open within the half an hour.
