Apartment Project Zoning Gets Full Council Approval
A zoning change doesn't guarantee anything.
But a controversial
building project planned for an area between downtown La
Crosse and UWL will at least get to the final planning stage. By a nearly
unanimous vote, the city council has given preliminary zoning approval for a 120
bedroom college rental apartment building on the block between State and Vine
streets and ninth and tenth. Several competing landlords have objected to
the project for a constantly morphing list of reasons, but primarily for
the built-in lack of parking that the development seems to create in the
area. Developer Jason Alberty from Pointe West Investments says final
plans will include plenty of parking for tenants and commercial spaces on the
ground floor. Final plans for the project will have to return to the
council for approval.
