City Council Committee Agrees to Zoning Change for Large Development
A controversial apartment development in La Crosse
has a long way to go
before a groundbreaking, but the project appears to be
picking up steam. Pointe Weste Investments has, in the last month or
so, significantly downsized conceptual plans for a large complex in between
State and Vine streets just west of West Avenue. And that
willingness to fit closer to city standards for development has won it a couple
of positive votes for a re-zoning that's needed for the project to move
forward. The latest vote coming last night at the city council
committee level. The 120 bedroom complex would have businesses on the
ground floor but not nearly enough parking spots, say competing landlords, for
the businesses or the targeted student population who will live in the
apartments.
