Will Failing Schools Be Punished
Out of over 1,800 schools in Wisconsin that received a public report card
with a rating last week, 86% met or exceeded the state's expectations for performance. About 14% of the schools rated fell below the state's expectations for performance. La Crosse finished in the upper tier of the grading system though Dr. Troy Harcey says they were already unpacking common course state standards which are much more rigrous academic standards for the students. But it goes beyond that.
But the state hasn’t said what supports or penalties those 266 struggling schools might face. The state Department of Public Instruction intends to lobby lawmakers during their next session for more funding to support struggling schools.
