Speculation on Mayor Race is Just That

Next year's mayor's race in La Crosse has generated speculation about who might run.   And, at this point, we've found little that goes beyond speculation.  Senator Herb Kohl hinted publicly last week-end that his La Crosse staffer, John Medinger might be a good fit for a run at mayor.  We talked to John who said he was surprised that his boss made the comment but that he's not ready to make a decision on whether to run for another term as mayor.  Current mayor, Matt Harter hasn't made it clear whether he'll run again.  Otherwise, frequent council critic Craig Nestor says he's running but hasn't done anything to make that official.  Neighborhood activist Randy Magno has come the closest, by filing campaign finance forms in city hall.  Candidates can begin circulating signature petitions on December first.
