Thompson and Hovde Leading In Senate Primary

A tight race between a former governor and a political newcomer for the U-S Senate race in Wisconsin...

Tommy Thompson moved into the lead over Eric Hovde in the Republican Senate primary, with about half of the precincts in the state reporting. Hovde had the lead early in the night, but neither man has had much more than a three-point advantage. Mark Neumann was several points back in third place. Thompson was carrying most of the western and southern counties in the state, with Hovde's strongest showing being in the northeast, near Green Bay. Neumann was carrying several northern counties, and Assembly Speaker Jeff Fitzgerald did not have the lead in any county.
