Manhunt Underway In Monroe County

There's a dual man manhunt underway in Monroe County.

Two inmates walked away from Black River Correctional Center last night then kidnapped a woman and stole her car in Sparta. The two inmates, 29 year old James Newman and 18 year old James Misleveck or Mauston were reported missing last night just after 11pm.

The 2 convicts kidnapped a woman and forced her to drive them to Sparta, where they got out at a Kwik Trip. The pair then ran to Northern Engraving and stole a vehicle. After several police agencies were trying to track the stolen truck this morning, the 2 were last seen driving into a wooded area south of Tomah. Deputies found the stolen vehicle and a shotgun were found.

Authorities are going house to house in the area alerting residents while they search a wooded area that is roughly 500 acres. Officers from numerous departments, including La Crosse County's BearCat armored vehicle, are helping with the search. If anyone sees the inmates, call 911. Authorities say the public should not approach the pair.
