Man Escapes Burning Car

A Sparta man is lucky to be alive today after being pulled from a burning car Tuesday in Monroe County.

Just before 3:30 Tuesday afternoon, 22 year old Ken Clark was on Highway 16 when he crossed the center line, slammed into a ditch which vaulted him into a hayfield. Shortly after the crash, the car started on fire as did the hay around it. A passerby who witnessed the crash was able to pull the unconscious Clark from the car before it was engulfed in flames. Clark was transported to Mayo Health Systems Sparta Campus with head injuries, and later transferred to a La Crosse Hospital.
