Harter Veteos Kwik Trip Resolution

La Crosse Mayor, Matt Harter, has notified the city council that he has vetoed a resolution approving Kwik Trip's Development Agreement. In the letter, Harter stated that it is not in the best interest of society for the government to grant subsidies to private projects. Harter says every day, in La Crosse, people go to work improving and developing. Some of these improvement and development projects are large, some are small , and not all receive subsidies or reimbursement of tax dollars. The Mayor adds that it is not in the best interest of society for our government to grant subsidies to private projects, large or small.

Bravo, Mr. Mayor! This is exactly correct. Kwik Trip, like any other business in the area, will succeed or fail on its own. In particular, Kwik Trip has a record of success that shows a taxpayer subsidy is completely unnecessary. Frankly, I'm a bit disappointed in the company for even considering for this taxpayer largesse. Equally disappointed in the city council for passing the resolution.
