Mayor Vetoes Downtown Mainstreet Money

La Crosse's mayor has wielded his veto pen again.   Mayor Matt Harter has vetoed a unanimous decision by the city council last week to release already budget money for Downtown Mainstreet Incorporated.  The mayor says, as a private organization, Downtown Mainstreet shouldn't be getting public money as a subsidy.  The 19 thousand dollars directed towards Downtown Mainstreet was approved last fall and was a thousand dollars less than the city sent to the organization last year.   Downtown Mainstreet says its mission is to "enhance, revitalize, and redevelop La Crosse's original central business district."
