W. Salem Man Shot By Cops Wouldn't Drop Large Knife

He was carrying a knife more than a foot long, and ignored police orders to drop it.

That's why a West Salem man, Keith Marchbanks, was shot by an Onalaska policeman during a call to his home last night. Marchbanks had surgery at Gundersen Lutheran, and is in critical condition. He's suspected of stabbing wife Stefanie, who's been treated for chest and thigh wounds. A two-car garage was set on fire. Officers got two younger family members out of the burning house.
