Plastics Recycling Not Coming Quickly in La Crosse
Plastics recycling in La Crosse won't happen this week. This month. Maybe not for a few months. Although the city council has approved a program to start recycling some plastics, a deal to do that still has to get worked out with the city's garbage contractor, Harter's Quick Clean-up. Public Works director Dale Hexom says that's not likely to happen before May. And then there's another step after that. Hexom says the city council will likely have to change the solid waste ordinance that doesn't currently provide for plastics to be recycled. Recycling plastics will cost the city several thousand dollars a year.
