Hearing Today on Bus Fare Increases

A public hearing on proposed fee increases for La Crosse's public bus service today.

The transit utility wants to boost all fares, senior citizens and disabled riders included.   Proposed fare for a regular adult rider would be $1.50.  A quarter higher than it is now, but still in line with fares in other like-sized Wisconsin cities.  Eau Claire and Janesville are currently at a $1.50.   Sheboygan's a little higher at $1.75 for regular bus fare.  Other cities like Wausau and Fond du Lac are at $1.25.   Oshkosh appears to be the lowest; bus ride there is still just a buck.  Fare increase hearing is at 5:15 in city council chambers.
