Winona Deputy Kills Suicidal Man

A Winona County Sheriff's Deputy has been placed on administrative leave after killing a man who pointed a gun at him last night near Minnesota City.

Officers from the Winona County Sheriff's Department and Winona Police Department began searching for an armed and suicidal man Tuesday, and located the him about 11 p.m. last night on the bridge at U.S. Hwy. 61 and Bridge Street in Minnesota City. The man pointed a gun at himself, then pointed it at officers. After repeated attempts to get the man to drop the weapon, 34 year old Deputy John Kyle Hazelton, shot the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man's name has not been released.
