Plastics Recycling Leaves Xcel Plant Unaffected

It was one of the arguments against starting a plastics recycling program in La Crosse in the first place. Worries that the Xcel garbage to energy plant on French Island would be negatively affected by taking #1 and #2 plastics out of the waste stream. Unfounded concerns over the past year, as it turns out, says Xcel environmental boss, Tina Ball.   Neither the energy output or the emissions from the plant have changed in the last year.

Ball says she doesn't know for certain if that would change if all the rest of the types of plastics were recycled in the city. But she's certain that emissions would not increase.
