Sparta Loses Beer/Alcohol Votes And City Clerk

Voters in Sparta were asked to decide whether to reverse an almost 50 year ban on selling alcohol outside of a bar. For the 8th's won't happen. Voters shot down both questions, the first that would allow beer sales by 260 votes and the second to sell alcohol by 60 votes.

Hegenbarth Foods General Manager, Todd Hammond, who oversees operations at the Sparta Piggly Wiggly has backed both questions for years now....and is once again...dissapointed.

The ban has been in place since 1963 and this is the eighth time since 1982 voters have shot down the referendums.

Also, long time City Clerk, Barb Pederson lost her seat to Julie Hanson, 1145 to 1134.
