Kind calls on Paul Ryan for rail safety

Congressman Ron Kind is calling for federal action on rail safety, after two train derailments in Alma and Watertown over the weekend.

Kind is urging Speaker Paul Ryan and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to bring his bill on railroad safety to a vote.

That bill would ban the use of DOT-111 rail cars that were used on the train that went off the tracks along the Mississippi, spilling thousands of gallons of ethanol.

Two freight trains derailed in Wisconsin over the weekend, putting more focus on the safety of those trains and railroad tracks in the Midwest.

The first accident happened Saturday near Alma with about 30 rail cars going off the track and spilling thousands of gallons of ethanol.

Sunday, a crude oil train derailed at Watertown.
