Tickets and warnings on Losey decline over three years

Seven busiest streets see 40% of city’s speed-related tickets.

Nearly a quarter of all speeding tickets and warnings have been written on just two streets in La Crosse in the last three years.

Losey Blvd. and West Ave., combined, have generated almost 2,500 speed-related warnings and citations from 2014 through 2016.

Speed enforcement, however, on most La Crosse streets has lagged a little in the past year.

New numbers from the city’s police department show that the La Crosse’s seven busiest streets combined for 40 percent of the 10,000 speed-related warnings and citations issued between 2014 and 2016.

On all of those streets except for one — South Ave. — the combined tickets and warnings have dropped over the last two years.

On Losey, where police have recently increased enforcement, the number of tickets and warnings dropped by 29 percent.

The increased enforcement on Losey comes as the city council considers lowering the speed limit there from 30 to 25 miles per hour.

Neighbors there are frustrated about vehicles, especially big trucks, going much more than the speed limit and seemingly causing damage to their house because of the vibrations.

The council is set to vote on lowering the speed limit on Losey next month.
